Hey everyone!
It's been a week exactly since I've been back home in the Seattle area, and I'm happy that I'm able to sleep in my own bed in my own room! Yes, this is the same room I had to clean awhile ago. I'm not sad about it anymore though, so ha! Now that I've had some time to come down from spending almost two weeks driving across the country, I've also had that time to remember what it was that we listened to! We drove a U Haul from Washington to Washington because furniture wouldn't fit in his car plus all the other things he had. What we couldn't put in his car was put in there, and when I mean "we", I mean Josh and his friends put everything in the U Haul and I was sitting on the floor watching basketball.
U Hauls, fun fact, are really only equipped with radio, or at least that's what ours has. The good ole' AM/FM standard, but it has that area where you can plug in an adapter into the lighter to plug your phone into, so that's how we get music that way. It's pretty ghetto, and it definitely makes me miss driving an actual car (hint hint) that I can just plug in and listen to Spotify. But this experience also let me figure out what kind of music Josh likes, and he actually likes a couple specific genres, unlike me, who can listen to just about anything and everything.
More than music though, we've also been listening to audiobooks. Pre-trip, I couldn't stand audiobooks. I love books, but I love physical books that I can hold in my hands and smell that book smell. I don't like Kindle or Nook version of books, and I honestly would space out and not listen to audiobooks. Josh brought audiobooks up before we even left, and I told him that I wasn't the biggest fan of them, whereas I think he's the biggest fan of them I know. He's got Audible (this isn't sponsored, but you can get a month free trial right off the bat. Hey Amazon, sponsor your girl) and convinced me to at least think about it.
SO. This post is going to be about the music and audiobooks that we listened to! I ran a poll on my Instagram awhile ago asking if anyone wanted a post also about books, and the majority wanted to read about the books we listened to along with music, so I'm going to combine posts! So if you want music or books OR both, read on!
I'll start with music first, because I think that's what everyone wants the most haha. I think like my past posts have said, I can listen to pretty much anything. I love Disney, I love classic rock, I love Hannah Montana, I love screamo music from 2008, etc. I will listen to basically anything except Top 40. I hate Top 40 unless it's Taylor Swift. Spoiler alert, a lot of Taylor Swift was listened to. A lot. These are the playlists we listened to, and they're all on Spotify, made by Spotify:
Indie Rock Road Trip
Indie Sunshine
Tender
Songs to Sing in the Shower
You & Me
Chill Vibes
We also listened to a lot of songs in the playlist I made for Josh, which include:
Season 2 Episode 3 - Glass Animals
Coffee - Sylvan Esso
Waves - Blondfire
California Nights - Best Coast
Sunset Lover - Petit Biscuit
Stolen - Dashboard Confessional
Make This Leap - The Hunts
Reset - Ryan Mitchell Grey
Touch - Paloma
Irreplaceable - N i G H T S
I'm So In Love - Widmer
And then just random songs like:
Scotland, I Wish You Had Stayed - Flatsound
Being in Love with U - Tomppabeats
It's Sunday, April 19th and I Miss You - Flatsound
Hannah Hunt - Vampire Weekend
Turn On The Lights - Future
Ottoman - Vampire Weekend
Mardy Bum - Arctic Monkeys
Home - Dotan
Little Lovin' - Lissie
Over And Over - Nelly
We Found Love - Rihanna
There were a lot more than that, but that's basically what I can specifically remember. Josh listens to a lot of lo-fi hip hop and indie music, which are a couple of my favorite genres, so I've been having a lot of fun listening to his music and learning about why he likes it and why certain songs are his favorite.
He also, as I've said, loves audiobooks, so this is where I segue into that part of this post! He likes a lot of the classics (Fahrenheit 451, The Great Gatsby, The Scarlett Letter, etc) but to butter me up, he let me get some that I thought were interesting or that I wanted, so I got a couple and I actually really liked them! I'm warmed up to audiobooks for sure, so here are the ones I got and listened to:
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone - JK Rowling
Anne of Green Gables - Lucy Maud Montgomery (I got the whole series - they were super cheap!)
Rhett & Link's Book of Mythicality - Rhett and Link (yes, it's also narrated by them - big recommend!)
Teammate - David Ross (sadly not narrated by him)
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe - Benjamin Alire Saenz (really really good plot, plus it's narrated by Lin Manuel Miranda)
And since the Kentucky Derby was recently, there was a horse that was racing named Audible, and Amazon backed him by offering a free audiobook if Audible won! Audible took third, but they still gave us an audiobook! It's about American Pharoah and how we won the Triple Crown. It was so interesting! I love horses (not in the weird eight year old "I want a pony for Christmas" phase haha) so I always watch the races and pretend I'm there. Maybe someday.
Those were the six I was able to get, and I was able to finish all of them! I'm not sure if I have a favorite, because I did love them. Some of them were new and some of them I've read before, and I usually hate it when people read to me, but I like the narration of each of them. I'm a sucker for a good narrator, because if it's not a good narrator, I probably won't listen. We towed Josh's car behind the U Haul the whole trip and when we were somewhere for the night (Las Vegas, for example) we'd just take it to wherever we wanted to go, like for dinner or something. I do recommend that, just be aware your car has gas! Not something we found out the hard way, but just some common sense haha.
That wraps up this post! I hope you enjoyed it and/or found something new or interesting to listen to! Let me know what your favorite audiobooks are!
xo, Lily
