What I'm taking to the hospital

Friday, August 2, 2019
Hi, blog readers! It's been a whole heck of a lot of time, hasn't it?

The last time I blogged, I believe I was living in New Zealand after my awkward and heartbreaking divorce. I'm here to say that I'm not living in Auckland anymore and I'm doing a lot better. In fact, I'm continuing on my adoption journey on my own! To keep a very long story short (that I do hope to further blog about), my daughter should be born like... right now. But she's staying put at the moment, so I'm taking this time to blog about what I'm taking to the hospital for her and for myself, as someone who is adopting a baby.

This list is just for myself and what works well for all of us. Some things will be the same, but other things will be different. Go with what works for you and your family!

*Just a note, this is a closed adoption, which means that the record of my daughter's biological mom will be sealed and there likely won't be any meeting between her and her bio mom. I'm not going to delve into any other personal information because it is sensitive, but that's the main gist of it.

**No, I don't know when I'm coming home. I should be here for several days while paperwork and documents get processed. I can't just leave the state as much as I wish I could (depending on the state and each one's procedures, you may need to attend some kind of court...bleck).

For her:

+ Car seat (of course) (here is a link to the one I have)

+ I know that hospitals will send you home will a small supply of diapers and other knick knacks but I brought extras anyway because you truly never know.

+ Wipes

+ Pump (yes I'm breastfeeding her and yes it's possible) (here is a link to the one I have)

+ Bottles

+ Diaper bag (here is a link to the one I have)

+ Blanket

+ Some onesies

+ Baby shampoo, lotion, etc

+ Weather appropriate clothing (it's warm here but I brought socks just in case)

+ Binky

+ Travel baby bed (because we aren't leaving for a couple days) (here is a link to the one I have)

For me:

+ Important documents and paperwork

+ Wallet

+ Keys

+ Phone

+ Adoption journal

+ Laptop (hi!)

+ Shampoo, lotion, misc hygiene products

+ Camera (plus charger, batteries, etc)

+ Clothes

A lot of people like to give gifts to the biological parent(s) and I also brought along some things for her because I know how rough things have been for her.

That's essentially it! I'm so happy that everything was able to fit perfectly in my car with room to spare. I remember my mom making fun of me years ago when I bought my car because it's so large, but who's laughing now?

Still my mom, probably. Ha.

Feel free to ask me any question that you may have! xx
